Most pages that rank for “DigitalOcean alternatives” treat the product as a cheap server price. That is the wrong comparison. DigitalOcean keeps people because the tutorials are clear, the panel is simple, and managed databases or App Platform sit on the same bill as the server. If you only need a basic Linux machine, cheaper…
The egress line usually decides the move. Hetzner, OVHcloud, and Scaleway cut the bill for portable EU workloads; proprietary managed services still need a rewrite.
Both are French and EU-based. That is the part most comparison pages treat as the whole story. It is not. One is built more for developers who want a cleaner console, hourly billing and managed services. The other is often cheaper for a plain VPS and has a wider set of locations and a broader…
HostHatch is fine. You just need more disk, a missing city, or monthly billing. The people who already like it are not looking for a random cheap host. They want similar hardware quality, more SSD per dollar, or a location that is actually in stock. Compute VMs and Storage VMs are different products. Compute is…
BuyVM sells extra storage for $5 a terabyte. That price only helps if you can still click the order button and if the disk you already own stays online. A lot of people hit one of two problems. The order page says out of stock, or the disk they already attached goes quiet and no…
Most people look at a Contabo plan and stop at the memory number. Eight gigabytes for the price of a coffee sounds like a win. The catch is that Contabo puts many customers on the same physical machine. When that machine gets busy, your share of the processor can shrink. Light work often feels fine….
You find a very cheap yearly server. The deal looks good. Then something stops working the way you expected. For some people the problem is email: the mail bounces or goes to spam. For others the IP cannot be reached from China. For others the node feels slow after a few weeks, or there are…
Hetzner can hold a new order for a passport or a card prepayment. The cheap CX23 plan is Europe-only. Ashburn does not sell it.
The cheap Netcup plan only helps if you can still order it. An old G12 contract keeps the old price. A new order is G12.5, and sold-out plans need a different host.
