Hindi Diwas/day: Gifting books may revive & grow Hindi

On the occasion of Hindi Divas / Day, on 14-September, we would like to share some thoughts on ideas to make people proudly use Hindi. Hindi is the heart and soul of more than 600 million people worldwide, which is just second to Chinese, followed by Spanish and English. Such a huge population and their language must be respected. Unfortunately, Hindi language has not got its due until now. We can not ask UN to make Hindi as one of the working language, as it has not become the one even in India. We shall mention some top-class Hindi books, which you can gift to your family & friends on Hindi Diwas in order to help rather wounded language. It will surely help Hindi to get some life.

As per Foundation for Endangered Languages & as per this post, 25 languages die every year or 250 languages in a decade vanish from the earth. In fact once the last language speaking person dies, the language also die with him/her. Languages like Hindi may not die so easily or never, but with the fast pace, Hindi is vanishing from formal communication, it may not live a healthy life for long. For instance, as per one report/study, the number of students of English medium schools increased from 1.5 crore in 2008-09 to 2.9 crore in 2013-14. Which is almost 100% growth, during same duration Hindi medium students grown by just 25%.

Not only Hindi, but other Indian languages are losing out to English at a very fast pace. Since this post is about Hindi Diwas/day, we are raising the concern only about it. Else, the same problem is with all Indian languages.

“In fact once the last language speaking person dies, the language also die with him/her.”

In next 20-30 years, who knows, if we’ll have Hindi medium schools or not. It all depends on you readers, many among us are also the parents. If you don’t want to send your child to Hindi medium school, then who will?

My point is, the day we will lose all people who are reading and writing in Hindi, it will be lost!

Hindi is the integral part of our culture. Let us help it to revive it.

Hindi Diwas or hindi day is celebrated in India and world to remember the contribution of HIndi to the world literature and culture.
