Envato Elements is still the big mixed library: stock video and photos, templates, music, graphics, fonts, WordPress kits, and the rest of a catalog Envato now lists at 29 million-plus items. The AI Video Generator — people also call it VideoGen — is one tool on that same bill.
You type a prompt or lock a start frame, pick a quality band, and get a short clip. Envato’s help pages say videos run up to eight seconds.
You can set start and end frames, pick an aspect ratio, turn audio on or off, and tap Enhance prompt. Tools such as extend, reframe, modify, or change subject spend credits when they use a Generate button. Uploading a reference, rewriting the prompt, or previewing an old clip does not.
What it is not: a full editor, a 60-second YouTube desk, or a place where you pick “use Veo for this shot, Kling for the next” as a stable habit. Envato says it picks a model for the task. Public pages in September 2026 named a changing mix that has included MiniMax, Veo-class models, WAN, Kling, Seedance, and others. Plan the length and the license. Do not plan the model name.
Think of the subscription as the warehouse key. The video tool is the photocopier that charges per sheet.

How many videos can you actually make?
Since 17 August 2026, Envato has billed AI as weighted credits. One click is not always one credit. Image, graphics, voice, sound, and music actions list at 1 credit. Video generation and editing list at 2 or more.
For a 4-second clip, Envato’s help page lists:

Those bands are floors. The finished file may come back sharper than the label. Longer clips and extra variations cost more. The number on the Generate button is the live price.
All Envato AI tools share one credit pool. Twenty image edits spend the same 20 credits Core gives you for video. Unused credits do not roll over. The balance resets on your signup anniversary, not on the first of the month. Failed or blocked runs should return credits within two hours.

Real months are smaller. One bad prompt, one subject change, and one reframe can finish a Core month. If the clip has to look finished on a landing page, plan with the High column.
Eight-second clips cost more than the 4-second examples. Envato does not publish a fixed 8-second menu. Read the button.
A sample Plus month, still listed math only: 12 High keepers (108 credits), 8 Standard drafts (40), 10 stills (10), 4 voice lines (4), 2 music beds (2) = 164 credits. That leaves 36 credits for mistakes. Retry every High shot twice and you get about 11 keepers and almost no room for stills. Core cannot run that month. That is why Plus exists.

Students save 30% on Core after verification. Every individual tier includes unlimited stock downloads under fair use, plus a commercial license on stock and on AI clips used in an end product. AI music has extra limits. Read those terms before you ship a track on its own.
Core — take if you already live in the library. You need themes, footage, music, and templates in the same month. The video tool is a sketch pad: a motion test, a social bumper, a still you want to nudge. Twenty credits will not cover a client week of High clips.
Core — skip if video is the product. You will burn the 20 credits on retries before lunch.
Plus — take if you still want the library and you generate most weeks. Two hundred credits is forty Standard 4-second clips or twenty-two High clips if video is the only AI spend. That is enough for hooks, product spins, and patches next to stock footage.

Ultimate — skip if you wanted a model picker and 15-second shots. Ultimate still caps clip length and still picks the model for you. Buy a video lab.
Team seats are a different checkout. Credits are per person, not one shared company bucket. Enterprise is quote-only. Do not assume one Plus login covers three editors.

What changed in February and on 17 August 2026
Two public changes made most older reviews wrong.
From 25 February 2026, Envato split the old single plan into Core, Plus, and Ultimate. The stock library stayed on every tier. The gap became AI allowance. Early Plus copy spoke in “generations.” Early Ultimate marketing still said unlimited AI under fair use.
On 17 August 2026, Envato moved to weighted credits. Core went from 10 listed generations to 20 credits. Plus went from 100 generations to 200 credits. Video stopped costing the same as an image. A High 4-second clip at 9 credits is not “one generation.”
Older unlimited Ultimate accounts were later moved onto numbered credit tiers. A 19 September 2026 Photutorial note said annual unlimited Ultimate accounts were due onto 500 credits from 23 September 2026, with a price adjustment. If you hold an old Ultimate invoice, read Envato’s email. Do not trust a February blog post.
Core and Plus prices did not have to rise for video to get more expensive. The unit of spend changed.
When a dedicated lab still wins
Keep Envato’s generator when the job is “library plus a few short made-up shots.” Leave the generator — not always the library — when the job is a video desk.
Runway and similar labs. You pick the model. You pay in seconds. The tool is built around generation and edit, not around WordPress kits. Runway’s developer pricing lists Gen-4.5 at 12 API credits per second. Web plans and API pools are different purchases. Open the live Runway site before you quote a monthly total. Take a lab if length, control, and a named model are the brief. Skip it if you also need unlimited templates and music on the same invoice.
Kling, Veo / Flow, Pika, and the rest. Same test. They sell generation. They do not replace Envato’s catalog. Paying both bills is normal once video is a daily output and the library is still earning its keep.
Storyblocks and other footage-first suites. Better when the week is “edit clips we already have,” not “invent a four-second hero.” The alternatives page covers that fork.
This URL is not “best AI video generator 2026.” That search wants a lab list. This search wants Envato’s meter.
A narrow cost read, retries excluded: Plus at $39 billed annually, 200 credits, High 4-second clips at 9 credits → 22 clips, about 88 seconds, or roughly $0.44 per second of accepted High footage. That looks cheap next to a lab that bills a flagship model by the second. It is cheap only if eight seconds and a routed model are fine. The moment you need a locked 10-second take, you are shopping a different machine.
License, in plain words
Envato’s public AI FAQs say generated videos can go into personal, client, or commercial end products. Stock you downloaded keeps the Elements license on those files after you cancel, for work already in motion. AI outputs follow the AI product terms. Music made on the platform has tighter rules than a video bumper.
Fair use still sits on the stock catalog. Mass scraping and treating the library as a mirror are the usual tripwires. Credits are not a workaround.
If a stock still is the start frame for a generated clip, both rule-sets can apply. Check both pages before a client upload. Some workflows that chain several AI actions in one pass cost more than a single Generate. The button is still the invoice.
You can cancel anytime. Access runs to the end of the paid period. The FAQ we opened said no refund on cancel. You can upgrade mid-cycle. A downgrade waits for the term.
A simple way to spend credits
- Write the shot list first. Mark what already exists as stock.
- Make the still first. An image is 1 credit. A bad video retry is 5 or 9.
- Draft on Low (2 credits for four seconds) until motion and framing feel close.
- Spend Standard or High only on the keeper.
- Use prompt edits, crop, and preview before you click Generate Changes.
- Stop when the clip can sit next to stock. Do not chase a 20-second scene the tool cannot make.
- Note the anniversary date. Leftover credits disappear.
Proof on cheap paper. Print the final once.
This advice breaks on a brand film that must match last month’s character, a 30-second explainer, or a shot that needs camera moves you can keyframe. The generator will still spit out a clip. It will not replace the edit suite. Use stock for the long holds. Use AI for the two seconds the catalog does not have.
Who should pay for it
Pay for it if you already need Envato’s mixed library and you want a few commercial-licensed shorts on the same invoice. Plus is the default video plan. Core is the library plan with a demo meter. Ultimate is for people who empty Plus.
Do not pay for it if you need long takes, a model you choose by name, or a week that is only generation. Do not upgrade from Core to Plus because a review said “200 credits is a lot.” Two hundred credits is forty Standard 4-second clips with no retries and no image spend.
